The Maldives was a pretty special trip for us as it was our honeymoon but it was also the first time we had travelled together to an all inclusive resort with little to do. As I’m sure you know if you’re a regular reader we much prefer holidays that are full of adventure and pack in as much a possible. The Maldives was not like that at all and the difference in type of holiday was a marvel. There were days when we barely walked anywhere, we spend most of the time in the sea and you didn’t have to find a new restaurant for dinner each night.
As amazing as all inclusive was I will enjoy moving around a little bit more on our next holiday. However, for a honeymoon in the Maldives it was absolutely what you should do. Resort life is something every traveller should experience once so that they know what it is like to actually take a holiday.
Things that happen when you take an all inclusive holiday to the Maldives
Your day will revolve around what time food is served
You’ll always eat too much food at the buffet
You will say yes to another drink because it’s free
You’ll live in your bikini/swimwear
You’ll only really get ‘dressed’ for dinner
You’ll go to the bar before dinner because there isn’t anything else to do once it gets dark
You’ll get restless at some point
You’ll always be in the water
Because of the above you’ll always feel like a prune
You’ll forever be applying suncream and it will never be enough
You’ll see more types of fish that ever before
Seeing eels and stingrays will be cool from above but scary when you are in the water with them
The waiter will come to know your drink choices
You will people watch at every opportunity
You’ll spend more time on your water villa deck than the island
You’ll spend hours watching the water for fish or the sky for stars
You won’t believe how quiet and still it can be
You’ll see storms on the horizon before they hit the island
You’ll alternate which way you walk to dinner
You won’t have a clue what day it is
Your snorkel mask won’t ever be comfy but you’ll wear it anyway
You’ll never stop marvelling at how shallow the lagoon is but how steep the drop is at the edge of the reef
There is nothing better than waking up the views and you’ll never get bored of them
There’s nothing more relaxing than listening to the waves
Sunset is amazing everyday
You’ll step into island life easier than you think and won’t want to connect to real life
You’ll dread leaving day and be sad when it comes
Have you been on an all inclusive holiday? Do you agree with these statements?
