Our stop in Colombo was the first night of our honeymoon so we decided to make it more memorable by booking a fancy hotel for the night. This is something that is not typical for us so always feels like a treat but there was something about Jetwing Colombo that really stood out. I’m not sure if it was the stylish decor, the gorgeous rooftop pool, the huge room or just a mixture of all three. Whatever it was, it certainly helped to make our trip that little bit more special.
Why you should stay at Jetwing Colombo Seven
As with most hotels I booked Jetwing on Booking.com after finding a handful of amazing hotels the final decider was it’s rooftop infinity pool. I love using Booking because so many reservations offer free cancellation until just a few days before the date. This is useful not because we were likely to cancel but because we booked the accommodation early and had done zero research about it’s location. I needn’t have worried as it was perfect.
Great Location
Colombo is split into districts that are all numbered, Jetwing is in Col 7 which is just south of many of the main attractions and is a district that has the gorgeous Victoria Park, plenty of cute cafes and so many other hotels. It is set off a main road making it easy to find and easy to pick up a tuk-tuk.
Amazing Decor
The hotel itself is grand from the moment you pull up outside, the entrance is well decorated and gives the hotel a very elegant feel. The reception carries though the same theme with stylish decor and an inviting feel. Beyond this area is the breakfast bar and restaurant which is very light, airy and modern looking. There’s also a cute courtyard with a water feature outside the window. This theme is then carried on on the above floors with lots of space for decoration and seating areas by the lifts.
Huge Room
The room we stayed in was a grand affair with a huge bed, desk and then seating area for chilling out. The bathroom was nearly as big as the room itself with a large walk in shower and a glass window to separate the bathroom from the bedroom. I found this a little strange and we kept the curtain down to keep the two apart. Still, the room was fantastic, the bed very comfy and it even had a robe and slippers. I wished we’d been staying longer.
Rooftop pool and bar
The star of this hotel was the rooftop bar and pool and this was the place we made a beeline for before we even inspected our room. I’d seen gorgeous pictures of the pool at night on the hotel’s website and wanted a chance to take a few photos myself but at the late time of 1am we didn’t except to be able to see much. To our surprise the bar was still open and we were able to get our first glimpse of Colombo from above albeit it in the dark. This whole area lived up to expectations from the photos and the tasteful decor options from downstairs were evident here too.
Of course the star of the hotel looked so much better come daylight and we took the opportunity to have a sunrise swim before starting our day in Colombo. The views from up here were incredible come daylight and the swimming pool was a perfect temperature for the hot weather.
Delicious breakfast
The final treat the hotel had to offer us was the amazing array of breakfast choice they had: cereals, fresh fruit, bread products and a huge selection of hot plates. Being the typical Brit that I am when it comes to breakfast I opted for egg, beans, bacon and hash browns. All washed down with a delicious juice and fresh coffee.
Throughout our stay the staff were more than helpful and accommodating to our late night drink request and baggage storage throughout the day. The only thing I found was their taxi services were slightly more expensive than the norm although it was possible to barter them down a little.
If you’re looking a bit of a luxury stay in Colombo then this is the hotel for you.
