Fed up of spending too much of your holiday budget on accommodation? Then let me introduce easyHotel. It’s a perfect step up from a hostel if you’d like a private room and private bathroom but still within budget so that you can spend the majority of your budget for your time in the city. They have hotels located all across Europe and I was lucky enough to test out their Croydon Hotel recently. It had just had a bit of a facelift so I got to experience the brand new feel that many of their hotel rooms now have.
easyHotel Croydon Review
easyHotel Croydon was easy to find and although it didn’t look much from the outside the orange curtains meant I could recognise it before I got there. Inside the easyHotel felt relaxed but modern and upon check in the staff were friendly and everything was processed fast. I’d also had an email letting me know about adding extras to my stay so that saved the receptionist having to explain all of that to me.
Location
The Croydon hotel is perfect if you are travelling to London for a city break and flying into Gatwick. It is located one stop away on the train and is a quick five minute walk from the station. You can then head back to the station minus your suitcase and be in central London within 15 minutes either at London Victoria or London Bridge. These two stations are well connected and will help you to see the most of London during your city break.
Croydon itself is a large town on the outskirts of the city and has great shopping and a ‘Box Park’. There is also one of these in Shoreditch too and they have been hugely successful. It is basically a food and drink court but much cooler than most food and drink courts in a shopping mall. It is covered because of our typical British weather but with huge windows it feels pretty open air, inside is a vast array of picnic benches and a whole range of eateries. While I visited they had the big screen up and were showing the football which gave the place a great atmosphere.
Room
The room was basic but had everything you’ll need on your city break: space to put your suitcase, a bed to sleep in and a bathroom with towels. The bed was comfy and the room had temperature controls so that you weren’t too hot or too cold. There were so many windows in my room too but thankfully the curtains were blackout so it kept the light at bay while I slept. My favourite part was just how good the shower was, it was hot and powerful, there is nothing worse for me than a bad shower! I also loved the London design on the wall which detailed the sky line, this made the room feel much more inviting.
The only con I found with my room was that it had a smell of smoke to it. This could have just been a one off for the room I was in though. I’d also heard that these hotels could be quite loud but aside from one room nearby setting off an alarm on their door I barely heard any other noise in the night.
Extras
If you want anything additional during your stay then you can add it on at a surplus. Wifi was £5 for 24 hours and their connection was pretty fast. You could also choose from different breakfast options and a room cleaning option if you were staying for longer than a night.
I love easyHotel’s idea that you only need to pay for what you’ll use. Typically when you’re on a city break you spend so little time in the room that you end up paying for things you don’t need. Then instead of using the free breakfast you’ll go in search of a brunch cafe just because. This option means you won’t be paying twice for things you really don’t need to.
Room rates start from £29.99 for the next few months and each day is different so it’s worth being flexible with your dates.
