Glencoe Photo Essay

Glencoe Photo Essay

Glencoe is between Glasgow and Fort William just north of Loch Lomond but despite this it took me until last month to actually visit this beautiful area. On our Scottish road trip in March we stayed in Kinlochleven and drove through the Glencoe village, assuming we had seen it all we headed off to Oban on a different road. Apparently I was very wrong on this assumption and had I of drive 5 miles in the other direction I would have been greeted with the views below. Still I’m kinda glad I missed it the first time around as the weather was dreadful in March. Glencoe is a photographers dream, the landscape is vast with a flat valley and monroe’s towering up each side. There are plenty of walks around this area where you can get much better photos however mine are all taken from stops on the road during two road trips. Glencoe is very popular and because of this all the roads/stopping points were busy with people and tourist coaches. If you could catch a nice day between October and April to visit I think you would have a much better time.

I have followed with interest your tour around Scotland, and I know you have spent a few months there, but retrospectively, if you had only a few days (say a long weekend forexample) what would be your recommendation? Edinburg or Glasgow? is the lockness lake way too far for just a short stay?

I love your photo post and really envy your little logo, did you do that yourself?!

Wonderful photos Jodie. I was in Glencoe in early May after a week in Glasgow and in route to a week at Ardverikie Estate (Glenbogle) in the Highlands. My ancestry traces to the Campbells of Breadalbane so Glencoe carries special meaning for me. It’s why I selected a photo of Glencoe for my own blog, book and video all under the name “A Glen in Scotland.” Enjoying all your posts on Scotland!
