I recently moved up to Glasgow and a few weekends back we drove up to Loch Lomond. I had heard good things about the scenery in Scotland with Loch Lomond being one of ‘the’ places to visit. It is a 30-40 minute drive from the city and very easy to navigate which gave us no excuse not to venture up there for an afternoon.
As you drive up from Gasgow the first views you get of Loch Lomond are beautiful (see below), from here you can choose to drive up the east or west coast. We chose the west coast and headed for a little town called Luss.
Heading up west coast the views are stunning and the drive is easy – well it is if you can keep your eyes on the road not the views! Luss isn’t far up the coast and is well sign posted, beware once you turn off the roads get very windy and narrow. We parked up in the central car park – free between November and April and headed for the water. These were the views which greeted us…
The water was so still and calm it created the most perfect mirror reflection, unfortunately it was very grey the day we went (hopefully it will be sunny next time). The scenery reminded me of New Zealand a lot, and it was certainly a lot more impressive than what I imagined. 
We wandered away from the water and around the village which had snowy hills and low clouds surrounding it. The village was full of the most beautiful cottages, most covered in greenery with cute little gardens. I was completely in awe with this little village and it certainly reminded me of my little home village in the New Forest.
After all the walking around and picture taken we were frozen and ready for afternoon tea. There were several choices of places to eat but we chose The Village Rest – purely because it said cake on the sign and I fancied cake. It was a beautiful little cafe, lovely decorations and yummy food. When we arrived it was rather busy, so took a while to get served however once we had been served we got our order quickly. They had a huge variety on the menu from soup, to full hot meals to cake and ice cream. I would certainly recommending stopping in here for a bite to eat. 
Loch Lomond is one of Scotland’s iconic places, we visited on a cold winters day but there was still a fair amount of people around. I can only imagine how busy it gets on a hot summers day.
Luss is located on the west side of Loch Lomond and a 40 minute drive from the West End of Glasgow.
Wow, your photos are beautiful. I love all of the different blues! I’ve only been to Scotland a couple of times but it’s definitely an area I want to explore more of.
