Degrave St
Over the next few months I plan on trying to visit a different place on one of Melbourne’s laneways each week and then bring it to you via my blog. When I first arrived in Melbourne I didn’t know where to find any of the laneways and went looking in all the wrong places. When really they are easy to find you just have to take the little lanes off of the main streets in the CBD. But with so many different lanes in the city it is really hard to know where to go – especially when half of the best places are hidden in warehouse buildings, down lanes which appear empty.
Manchester Press
Fran from TLB showed me to Manchester Press on Rankins Lane my first week of being in Melbourne this is one of those tucked away places that I would never had seen had she not have taken me there. It is inside a warehouse like building with cool art on the walls and a fun atmosphere inside. Their food and coffee was delicious and for a mere $16 I got coffee and a salmon bagel.
Section 8 and Campari House
I have also been introduced to Section 8 on Tatterstalls lane and Campari House on Hardware Lane. Section 8 is an outside bar with shipping containers, wooden pallets and all sorts of other wacky décor. The staff serve out of a make shift bar which makes you feel like you are ordering from a burger van or something. Definitely on the quirky side of things but still very cool! Campari House is a very more modern and swish place with 3 levels including a rooftop bar this place is very popular among the people of Melbourne – however slightly on the pricey side.
And my feature café this week… The Little Cupcakes
Last week I stumbled upon a café called the little cupcakes on Degrave St, after begging my boyfriend to buy me a cupcake and coffee we headed inside this tiny space. With beautiful décor all to do with cupcakes and miss-match furniture it felt like it was oozing with character. Despite only having two tables inside and out there seemed to be a steady stream of people going in and out the whole time we were sat outside with our coffee and cupcake. The prices were very usual for Australia – with them having a special deal of a mini cupcake and basic coffee for just under $5. Normal sized cupcakes are priced around $4-$5 and they have plenty of flavours to choose from. I tasted the raspberry and white chocolate mini one – yum is all I have to say and their coffee was made very well too.
They also have stores situated on William St and Queen St – however I’m yet to check these out.
