Travel Plans for 2013

Travel Plans for 2013

When we left the UK back in October I outlined our plans for the coming 8 months but as always with travelling those plans have been up in the air since we left. And I thought now it was time to update you on those plans.

Since arriving several unplanned things have happened; we spent more money one the east coast than I imagined, instead of working in Melbourne we ended up fruit picking in Waikerie – which not only changed our plans for the coming few months but also allows us to get a second year working holiday visa. The second year can be taken any when in the next five years and that’s the only part of our plans we aren’t sure on yet.

After completing our regional work on the 20th of February we will be leaving Waikerie and heading to Adelaide for a week, to relax back in to civilization and catch up on some of the fringe festival action. From there we will pick up an iconic Wicked camper and drive to Melbourne via the coast. Taking in the Great Ocean Road, Coorong National Park and Mt Gambier over the course of 4 days.

Once arriving in Melbourne we are planning to stick around, I know last time round we never stuck to our plan for Melbourne but this time as we have a four day grandstand ticket for the f1 it makes sense especially money wise. We are hoping to be able to take a road trip ever month or so out of Melbourne as for the last 3 months we haven’t travelled at all. Along with that from March to the end of July we want to save as much money as possible for the next leg of our trip.

The next leg is New Zealand and South East Asia. We will be leaving Melbourne at the end of July and after a few days in Sydney we will be off to Christchurch at the beginning of August. We will be hiring a camper van and driving to Auckland over the course of two and a half weeks. After that we will fly in to Bangkok in mid-August where we will spend our remaining time travelling around Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia and Singapore – until we have a flight booked home for the 9th of October the last day our rtw tickets of valid for. That flight is all about keeping our options open to IF we want to go home then because who can predict eight months away. If we don’t head home we will be returning to Australia around that time to take our second year.

The new plans I will miss Songrak festival in Bangkok but even though I have had my heart set on it for so long I know there are plenty of other years I can go. I mean it gives me a good reason to go back again doesn’t it?
