Seven Places I stayed in the USA

Seven Places I stayed in the USA

During the summer of 2011 I travelled around America. Here are my favourite seven places I stayed.

Monte Carlo Hotel – Las Vegas

With a pool, casino, shopping, restaurants, amazing views of the strip and the best room we stayed in on the Road Trip this was obviously going to be the best place. Spending most of our day in the pool and night in the casino it was the perfect place to aid our Vegas stay. We paid around $80 a night split between 3 of us, so it didn’t even work out that expensive.

Apple Hostel – Philadelphia

I was staying on my own here so opted for an all-girls dorm, it was MASSIVE despite being in a 10 bed room, the bathroom and showers were attached to the room as well. It was shiny and clean and reminded me of Ikea. The staff were so helpful as I had only come to the city to meet a friend I didn’t have a clue about Philly, but they gave me plenty to fill my 2 days. $37 for 1 night in a girls dorm room.

Adelaide Hostel – San Francisco

This was a great friendly hostel, the rooms were small but cosy, the communal area was great and the free breakfast was even better. They gave us a discounted and safe place to use to park our car for the 2 days and were a great help with where to go in the city. The only negative was the stairs, we had to lug our bags up 2 sets of stairs luckily I was with the boys but on my own I wouldn’t have managed it. We paid $35 a night for a mixed 6 bed dorm room

HI Baltimore – Baltimore

I was by myself again here so I stayed in an all-girls dorm, the rooms were average size and had a bathroom joined on. The building itself was a beautiful old place with tall ceilings; I think I loved it just for how pretty the building was. It had a great communal lounge, free breakfast and very helpful staff. While I was there it was very quiet, which I kind of liked however if you are looking for a party I guess this isn’t the place. I paid $25 for a 6 bed female dorm.

Lone Rock Beach Primitive Camping – Lake Powell

We paid $10 between 3 of us to camp on the beach by far the cheapest accommodation of the trip and the best camping experience. We literally camped on the edge of Lake Powell with beautiful views. Also a tiny bit obsessed with the fact Dr Who was filmed there. There was a wind storm which filled our tent with sand and slightly bent the poles, but that aside because of how beautiful it was this was our favourite.

New Brighton Beach State Park – Santa Cruz

We had, had really bad luck with campsites so we arrived nice and early only to be told we were 2 hours too early for registration – the irony! We did get a spot 2 hours later, it was a beautiful park set on the cliffs above the sea with a nice walk down to the beach. With a fire pit, bench and large area to pitch our very little tent we had plenty of space. We paid $35 for the pitch between the 3 of us, so this was a more expensive place for us but followed the West Coast price trend.

Riverside – Big Sur

We were lucky to stay here, we had the last pitch available, after driving around Big Sur trying to find somewhere to stay because the guide book told us there was no need to book at the state park, how wrong I was. However we got lucky, a spot right next to the river, fire pit, bench and WIFI!!! We paid $40 for the site between 3 of us so the most expensive of our trip but it was work it for how pretty this camp site is.
